Oysters on the half shell


I always like to know where to get a great meal, whether it's for my benefit or so I can recommend to out-of-town guests. So, if you're ever in Pensacola, Florida, be sure to check out The Grand Marlin. Known for its oysters (during the months with Rs for safety...January- April and September-December) you can get a great seasonal meal right on the ocean.

If you are really hungry, start with a half order of the Blue Angel chips. Named for the local airmen, these are homemade potato chips with blue cheese and balsmic drizzle. Even the half order is HUGE, and it is a delicious starter. The barbecue shrimp appetizer is also spicy and a great beginning. Unlike typical shrimp in the area, these are headless and come with buttery garlic bread (I've never warmed to my food looking back at me). These would also be good with a salad if you're watching calories or just need a smaller dish.

Grouper Picatta is always a solid choice for main dish. The seasonal vegetable is usually green beans. If you're able to do a market fish, they usually have good local choices like Redfish and Wahoo.

For dessert, your best bet is a Bushwacker from the bar area. Chocolately, milkshake like, it's soothing to the tummy and soul!
